How to Set Up Starlink Internet in Nigeria
Starlink is designed for self-installation, and most people are online within half an hour. Here's the process from unboxing to first connection.
-
Choose your mounting spot
Pick a spot with a clear, unobstructed view of the sky — no roof overhangs, trees or walls in the way. Use the Starlink app's built-in obstruction check before mounting anything permanently.
-
Set up the dish
Attach the dish to the included tripod/mount for testing, or your permanent mount (roof, pole or wall bracket) once you've confirmed a clear signal.
-
Connect the cables
Connect the dish cable to the Starlink router (or power supply unit, depending on kit version), then plug the router into a power source.
-
Power it on and wait
The dish will automatically tilt and orient itself to find the satellite signal. This takes a few minutes on first setup.
-
Download the Starlink app and activate
Download the Starlink app, create or sign in to your account, and follow the in-app steps to activate your kit and connect it to your account.
-
Connect your devices
Connect your phones, laptops and other devices to the Starlink Wi-Fi network shown in the app, using the password provided there.
-
Check signal quality
Use the app's statistics screen to check for obstructions or signal drops, and adjust the dish position if you see repeated interruptions.
Tip: If you plan to mount the dish permanently on a roof or pole, do a temporary test setup first with the tripod to confirm signal quality at that location before you commit to drilling or permanent fixings.
Common setup issues
- Slow initial connection: Normal in the first few minutes as the dish orients itself — give it 5-10 minutes before troubleshooting.
- Intermittent drops: Almost always an obstruction issue. Check the app's obstruction map and reposition.
- Router not showing Wi-Fi network: Confirm the cable between the dish and router is fully seated, and that the router has power.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Starlink is officially available in Nigeria and works well once the dish has a genuinely clear view of the sky. Most connection issues come from partial obstructions (trees, roof edges) rather than the service itself.
The kit is designed for self-installation and most people can set it up in under 30 minutes. If you're mounting it permanently on a roof or pole, or want it professionally positioned, we offer installation support — ask us on WhatsApp.
Starlink kits typically draw 50-75 watts, which most home inverter or generator setups can handle alongside other devices. Confirm your inverter's capacity before running it continuously alongside other appliances.
Reposition the dish to a spot with a clearer view — even small obstructions like a tree branch can cause periodic drops. The Starlink app shows you exactly where obstructions are occurring so you can adjust accordingly.
